Pigs in a Blanket

By Lorraine

An ever popular and easy appetizer, Pigs in a Blanket is a great after school snack especially for high school boys!
No one really needs a recipe for pigs in a blanket.  A tube of crescent rolls and either hot-dogs or cocktail sausages, a few minutes in the oven and you have a tasty snack or appetizer.  Serve with some plain or fancy mustard for dipping and you’re set! Sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds before baking, if desired.
By cutting each crescent triangle in half you will get 16 pigs in a blanket that serves…
well, one, if you are Jared, our oldest grandson.  Being a 16 year old boy in 10th grade somehow allows you to eat the whole plateful and remain a bean pole.

He comes here each day after school, has a snack, shows me what he is learning, quizzes me on Latin vocab and challenges me to a game of Rummy. If you ever wonder how I am spending most afternoons lately, I am playing cards with a dear young guy who colors my world.

Pigs in a Blanket

PRINT RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 can (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (I sometimes use low fat)
  • 16 cocktail-size smoked link sausages
  • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds (optional)
  •  mustard for dipping

DIRECTIONS:
Heat oven to 375°F. Unroll can of the dough; separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise in half.

Place sausage on shortest side of each triangle. Roll up each, starting at shortest side of triangle and rolling to opposite point; place point side down on ungreased cookie sheet.

If desired, lightly brush tops with just a little milk or egg wash and sprinkle tops with poppy or sesame seeds.

Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm.

These looks quite classy but just wondering – What are cresent dinner rolls? Sorry I am in New Zealand and never heard of them – looks like flaky pastry? If what size triangle do you use, I will make my own!

These look much fancier than the biscuit dough wrapped version that I grew up with. It's been ages since I had these and now you have me craving them!

yum! & I love your photos! How wonderful to have him over to spend time with! I look forward to those days when our kids eventually move closer now that we are in Kentucky. Our son would have two lunches in high school…one for "lunch" and one for "pre-lunch"? and then food again right after soccer/lacrosse/wrestling practice…before dinner!

    Blessings & Aloha!
Now that our son's wedding is done, I am catching up once again to blog visits and blogging. Thank you for stopping by (I cannot recall who I have made return thank you visits too! so I want to be sure that I say thank you! :o)

My boys are 13 and they eat like that too. Never gain a pound. I gain weight looking at food. Those rolls are so yummy–made cream cheese and bacon poppers with them the other day–so delicious!

You two are so blessed by the special times you have together. Those pigs in blankets look good. My mum used to make them, but with pastry dough. I'll have to make them for my little grandsons the next time I visit.
