How to make crochet cozies
Using a G hook, ch 4
Slip stitch into 1st ch for form ring.
Chain 2.
Row 1: work 12 hdc (sometimes I work 10) in ring.
Join w sl st in top of ch 2 of previous row.
Row 2: ch 2; 2 dc in each hdc around for 24 dc’s. Join w sl st in top of ch 2 of previous row.
Row 3: check your circle on the bottom of your container. If you just have a little more to make the circle the same size of the bottom of container, Ch 1. If you need a bit more, ch 2 and change sc’s to hdc or dc. I used sc’s.
{2 sc in next dc; 1 sc in next} repeat around for total of 36 sc. (center photo)
Row 4: join w sl st. Working in back loops just for this row, sc in each sc around. Join w sl st. (bottom row photos)
Row 5 and following: working through both loops, sc in each sc around, joining w sl st at end and chaining 1. (see photos below)
Repeat row 5 until 1 row short of top of container, changing color(s) if desired. (bottom left photo)
Last row: switch to 1 size smaller hook and repeat row 5. end off
How I make crochet cozies for cans
This is what I did for a cozy to cover a small 8-oz can. The photos will help as I am not very experienced at writing a pattern.
Using a G hook
ch 4, slip st into 1st ch for form ring; ch 2
Row 1: work 12 hdc (sometimes I work 10) in ring; join w sl st in top of ch 2 of previous row.
Row 2: ch 2; 2 dc in each hdc around for 24 dc’s. Join w sl st in top of ch 2 of previous row

Row 4: join w sl st. Working in back loops just for this row, sc in each sc around. Join w sl st.
Row 5 and following: working through both loops, sc in each sc around, joining w sl st at end and chaining 1.
Repeat row 5 until 1 row short of top of container, changing color(s) if desired.
Last row: switch to 1 size smaller hook and crochet around or slip stitch around giving the edge a finished look. End off
Here are more photos to illustrate the completion of the can cozies.
Use your imagination with your yarm creating stripes or patterns with various colors.
Working up toward to top of the can.
Do you like color? This glass jar (from refrigerated salad dressing) flower vase is for my oldest daughter’s desk in work. She loves bright and bold colors. Every row is worked in a different color of yarn. There are many knots to tie but it doesn’t take long.
This is a great way to use up small amounts of yarn. As the top of the jar narrowed, I decreased evenly around following the contours of the jar.

Thank you for the great idea. I have a bunch of old plastic glasses that have been banged and scratched up so much that they are no longer usable for drinking. They will work great for this. Have a blessed day.

Hey Lorraine! Thanks for the mention. Glad I could inspire. I've been crocheting the days away here during Spring Break. Sadly, only one day left and then it is back to school. I've crocheted a few cozies for candle jars in the past couple of days. Have lots of tin cans and coffee cans that need some upcycling, too. I'm making different gift sets that I'll post about soon. More kitchen lovelies of course. And now working on some gift bags. What would I do without hook and yarn. Love the colorful vase. Have a fabulous Friday. Tammy

We have used decoupage to decorate jars for flower vases. Your idea to use up small amounts of yarn is an excellent one.

I really like this idea! I have wanted to come up with a pretty way to display my crochet hooks / knitting needles on top of my yarn storage. I think this might be perfect! Thank you so much!

Yes Tammy is inspiring! I love all the color choices. This reminds me a bit of when I was a child and we covered similar bottles with old stamps and then sealed them with something glossy, They made nice vases.
