Summer on the Patio

We spend a lot of time on our patio and usually have most of our meals here. Every time I visit my friend Sue @Pear Tree Lane Farmhouse, I admired her front porch with curtains. (actually I admire everything about Sue!) I asked her how they held up through the season and she reassured me that with just a washing they would be fine. So I set about to re-purpose curtains for my patio.

Re-purposed Curtains for the Patio

I had two pair of those really long sheer panels (from the 90’s) that I have used in several bedrooms.  I cut each panel in half and hemmed them.  I actually used the original hem as a pocket for the rod because I had just enough fabric for the length I wanted.

We bought and cut electrical conduit for the rods and simply hung them using large teacup hooks.

Adding Repurposed Curtains to the front porch

Easy how-to for creating a welcoming, breezy porch using repurposed sheer curtains to give a little privacy, romance and curb appeal to your home. This is an updated post to show how adding curtains to the porch creates a bit of privacy so perfect for relaxing. I frequently have my coffee, breakfast and quiet time on the bench. It is usually still cool and I enjoy the birds, clouds and greenery. And, it is a peaceful way to start the day.

Here on the porch, I used a pair of tab curtains that once hung in a toddlers nursery then a guest room.  Tie the curtains back or allow them to hang  depending on the look and amount of privacy you want. I have only used sheer curtains so they do not completely block visibility, but is it enough for me. The real purpose of the curtains is to create a soft, breezy look that is lovely and adds curb appeal to our home.

I learned from experience not to use a metal tension rod as it will rust and stain the curtains. Our solution is this closet pole rod and sockets. It makes adding and removing  the tab curtains easy.

This is so beautiful! I also loved the tablecloth. This is exactly what we would like to do to our back patio. Right now it isn't even used. I've also seen curtains made from drop cloths and that seems to look nice also.

I put curtains up on the corner of my porch as a sort of sun filter. I use a rod and hooks etc. My husband is a retired electrician. Why did we not think of using conduit? Sheer curtains are a gentle and a bit sexy addition to summer.

We have re-done our flower bed and it turned out delightful. One of these days I'll get a picture posted. I need to get back outside….hubby is laying flagsone for a small breakfast patio. Our daughter thought it up and worked so hard on it….he is finishing up. The stones are way too heavy for me to lift, I wish I could help!
