Valentine’s Day Crochet Heart Garland

By Lorraine

Create a sweet Valentine's Day Heart Garland with an easy crochet pattern to decorate your home. Make in any color. Lovely to decorate a baby nursery too!No, I am not feeling sad this Valentine’s Day. Just thought I would change from the traditional red and pink colors to something a little different. A blue Valentine’s Day heart garland decorates a kitchen window.

I crocheted a sweet heart swag following a pattern by Molly on Design Sponge.  Instead of tiny hearts made with cotton thread as Molly did, I used worsted weight yarn.  I spaced my hearts closer together by chaining 15 between hearts rather than the 40 suggested when using thin cotton. Fifteen hearts were plenty to drape across a double window.

In next stitch: 1 half double crochet, three double crochet, 1 half double crochet. Skip one stitch, slip stitch in next stitch.

To finish the hearts, slip the stitch down one side of the heart, approximately 6 slip stitches to the bottom. Chain 1 at the bottom of the heart, and slip stitch up the other side of the heart. Slip stitch to first chain of row 7. Fasten off and weave in tails.

For the garland:

Create garland complimentary or contrasting color of worsted weight yarn.

  • Chain 40, *slip stitch to the top of the right lobe of one heart (though the back of the chain only). Chain 5, slip stitch to the left lobe of the heart. Chain 15 or desired spacing of hearts along your garland*.
  • Repeat from * to * above until all hearts are attached to the garland, ending with chain 40.
Fasten off, leaving small tails at either end for stringing up the garland.

Molly's garland is sweet but I would have to go with the way you made yours since the thread is just too difficult for me to work with. I love it in blue and it looks great hanging in your window.
Your table vignette is gorgeous. Makes my table look really really messy…lol

What a nice change the blue is! Your table vignette is so beautiful ~ the silver & blue is so striking together and I love the sweet bird.

Your white lacy curtians are pretty and the crocheted hearts look perfect against them.
