Cute Knitted Cowl Pattern

By Lorraine

Make a stylish, over-sized knitted cowl or hoodie with this easy to follow pattern. It is not complicated yet looks beautiful while keeping you warm and cozy.
Looking for a warm, cozy knitting project that is really cute too? I finished this knitted cowl from an easy to follow pattern from the Lion Brand Yarn site. (Thank you Marta, for the inspiration to pick up my needles again) I love the colors and feel of the cowl and the way it drapes around my neck.

When it is really cold, I pull the cowl up over my head and it acts as a hoodie.

Since I don’t like to use circular needles, I worked the piece in rows and seamed the back to close.  I used yarn I had in my craft cabinet that was a little thinner than the pattern suggested and size 7 needles (89 cast on stitches), so I needed more rows to get the desired length.

Before moving on to the pattern, I want to mention the knitting style I prefer. It is a slight adaptation to the way my mom taught me to knit when I was a child. She didn’t have a name for the way she knitted but I know now it is called Continental Knitting, or German or European knitting. We don’t throw the yarn with each stitch and I find it much faster and easier plus it doesn’t hurt my fingers.  This YouTube video, Continental Knitting does a great job demonstrating how it is done.

I agree with Tina, Miss Lorraine, the cowl is beautiful but the "model" makes it look gorgeous! I absolutely love your color choice. The year I lived in Indiana was my "knitting and crocheting year" I lost focus when I returned to So Cal. The weather here always seems to draw you outdoors, even during the winter. I do have a vintage suitcase full of beautiful yarn that I hope to get to at some point, we'll see.

    Big Warm Hug,
    Irma

BTW thank you for your sweet comment, and yes, God is good and things are looking better~thank you.
