Making Seed Treats for the Birds
- Pine cones smeared with melted peanut butter and dipped in birdseed. They are tied onto the wreath with kitchen twine.
- A crumbled mixture of lard, peanut butter, oats, corn meal and flour fills the mesh container (recipe follows)
- Heart-shaped treats made from birdseed, flour, water and Kayo syrup. (recipe follows)
Making Seed Treats for the Birds
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 Tablespoons corn syrup
- and then stirred the mixture into 4 cups bird seed
Peanut Butter Suet Dough
Peanut Butter Suet Dough from Julie Zickefoose
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup lard
Combine and melt these two in the microwave, in the oven, or over very low heat on the stovetop. Remove from heat and stir in:
2 cups plain yellow cornmeal
2 cups quick oats
1 cup flour
Allow to cool and harden, then chop into chunks and store at room temperature in jars. Serve crumbled in a shallow dish.

Don't sell yourself short on your wreath – it is beautiful! Robin's is as well – but I know I certainly could not make one as nice as yours! What a special treat for your birds!
And I thought I was doing them a favor putting my old dried up wreath on the porch so they had a covered place to nest near the feeders!

I love that. My Christmas tree became a shelter for my birds and I did something similar with filling little baskets with food for them and tying them to the tree. Your wreath is beautiful. Hope they love it. Hugs,Deb=^..^=x5

Where did you hang the wreath? I live near the street so I don't think the birds would come to the front door. I try a tree in the backyard and hope the squirrels stay away!!

How absolutely beautiful! The one thing I find the money for is feeding my feathered friends. I love to sit in my chair and look out the window at them as they feed and drink from the feeder and bird bath. They brighten my day!
