Beautiful New Family Room Seating

By Lorraine

Our oldest daughter, Erin, recently moved into a new home and had the opportunity to purchase some of the furniture. My heart skipped a beat when I saw her sofa and chairs and couldn’t help thinking how perfect they would be in my home. They didn’t really match her other pieces as she prefers soft, cushy leather.
So…
we traded!
Of course, not until I agonized over the decision.
The pieces were beautiful and the colors so right.
But, for my family room?
With 11 grandchildren?
Sticky fingers
leaky sippy cups
I even asked my friends opinion
they all agreed
go for it!
They suggested I spray them with Scotchgard.
Has anyone done that and if so, did it help prevent stains?

what do you think?  just right, huh?
The tan sofa and the two patterned chairs came from Erin.  The two oval-back chairs belonged to my mom and have been in our bedroom.  I took the two garage-sale wing-back chairs that were in this room to our bedroom and they actually look okay there.  I also switched the rug under the coffee table with the one in our living room.

We had to wait a couple of weeks to make the switch because of all the snow we have been having.

This is the leather sofa. Nice, big, cushy, soft, easy to wipe off sticky stuff.
With matching over-sized armchair that held lots of wee folks, with an equally over-sized ottoman.

Very nice.  But… dark.  And, you all know I like light and white.

I even draped a white, crocheted afghan over a large portion of the dark sofa

and added pillows
but, still
dark

now, if you keep looking, you just might see me zip by doing a happy dance
I’m happy
and
Erin’s happy
🙂

Well, I think both ways look great but the new arrangement is very nice and classy. Fun way to redecorate. 🙂 Best wishes, Tammy

It all looks so good! I bought a can of scotch guard at Walmart & sprayed my dining room chairs that have a very light off white seat. Pepperoni pizza was dropped on a seat & I thought for sure it was ruined but not stain!

Well, I've been on the lookout on Craigslist for a brown leather sofa for my living room. Now, I'm rethinking my idea as I am trying to lighten up the room. I see such a dramatic change in yours so… tsk, tsk, tsk… what to do.

Thank you for sharing and getting to thinking. I'm in love with your blog.

That looks like a perfect swap…leather is great for young families and the lighter shade looks perfect in your room.

We are in the process of buying a little cottage in Wales for holidays and maybe retirement when the time comes so I am really into decorating and furniture at the moment 🙂

YES YES YES! Scotchgard it once and when it dries Scotchgard it again and hit the arms even a third time. I have scotcgarded every piece of furniture in my house. (test it first to make sure it is okay on your fabric). When you first start spraying it you will kind of freak out because it looks all streaky bu it dries and you can't tell it's on there at all. Everything just stays on the surface like fingerprints and jam…lol…and you can just sponge it right off. I do all my kids shoes and my purses and everything! Make SURE you do it with windows and doors open!!!!!

It is beautiful, by the way, and looks perfect in your home. I love trades like that- xo Diana

The older I get, the more light I prefer. My house does not have light coming into the front of the house until late afternoon….so my colors are very light. All but the bedroom (a sage color) …but today I was thinking I wanted to repaint it Behr Swiss Coffee ( my go-to white ).
Not mentioning it to the hubs yet. WIll wait until this cold weather is gone.

Oh, I love it! What a great deal for you and for Erin! This "looks" like you. I have a chair that is sprayed with Scotchgard and recently when I spilled coffee, it wiped right up!

Everything in your remodel turned out lovely, perfect and lighted, I'd be happy dancing too!
The Scotchguard is a great thing, I 've done it before on my couches in the family room, because of the Little ones too and it does work. Wonderful!

Oh, your space looks beautful, Lorraine! And it looks so "you", which is the best way to decorate, don't you think? I applaud your choice, sticky fingers and sippy cups notwithstanding. I think it's always best to go with what you love…and then work out the details.

I'll dance the happy dance with you! (I get that excited over house-y things!) 😀
