The words by John Newton in his beloved hymn, Amazing Grace, never cease to move and humble with its message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed through the mercy of God.

As the summer moves forward, the flowers of August, in their strong hues of red, yellow and purples seem to take the stage from the pastel shades of springtime. Perhaps they thrive better in the heat of late summer.
There is no particular connection with the small pitcher of flowers filled with blossoms and leaves gathered from around the yard and the Amazing Grace hymn. Except that, lovely as they are, the flowers will fade away but grace never will.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,

His Word my hope secures;

And mortal life shall cease,

The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
