When we were expecting our twin daughters, John’s aunt gave us an antique highchair that had been in the family for many years. We think this antique high chair is from the early 1900’s and was used by John’s dad who was born in 1918. I was never able to find another highchair like this one with the beautiful carved Dutch children and tiger oak wood, nor was I able to learn anything more about it.
Antique Highchair
Originally it had a cane seat but was in need of repair when we received it. We simply cut a piece of wood and padded and covered it to make it usable for our little ones.
John doesn’t remember if the highchair was brought out for use when he and his brother were little and visiting Aunt Marie and Uncle Harmie but it did see its share of use when Jill and Jamie were babies.

Hi, I just found a chair with the same carving on the back. The high chair is slightly different in that it detaches to become a stroller. I cam online hoping to find more information about it and found yours. Thanks for posting.

What a wonderful high-chair! As soon as I saw the Dutch children I thought of the book 'Hans Brinker & the Silver Skates' (hope I've got the title right). You have a treasure in the high chair for sure, and your little ones in it are adorable. And =)

Absolutely beautiful treasure you have here LDH, and if only that chair could talk, what memories it would bring forth. Tiger oak is one of my favorite woods.
I have been away from my computer so I am out and about today trying to. catch up. i so enjoyed reading some of your previous posts,. especially time spent with the grandchildren, making memories is what life is all about. and having a surprise visit always makes it so much better. Our second son used to love to surprise us and what a treat that was.
Enjoyed the post on preserving herbs, I too have been drying and putting some up for winter. Sweet basil is one of my favorite.

What a precious keepsake. I still have the high chair all my children sat in starting with my oldest who is now 36. All my grandchildren have used it and I hope that my great grandchildren will also be able to use it. How fun.

What a treasure to pass down to all your children! We have my Dad's old high chair and it looks similar to yours except it doesn't have the beautiful etching in the back and at some point my grandmother decided it should be painted ORANGE!!

something about an item used for many generations in the family makes me a feel sentimental for sure! such a unique and precious high chair which im sure would continue to accompany many of your grandkids meal times 😀
