Back in the swing of things

By Lorraine

We realized the time and energy it would take to plan and prepare for our trip abroad but what I didn’t expect was how hard it would be to get back into the swing once we returned home.

Unpacking, laundry, connecting with family, email, snail mail, photos from camera, iPhone photos, sorting photos, editing photos, food shopping, house cleaning, yard work, even making meals is a chore (and you know how I love to cook!)

A cold when I got home (so happy we were well while away) slowed me down too.

I am slowly catching up and getting back in the swing of things as we cherish these these family moments.

Back in the swing of things

The first weekend back, we went to Historic Smithville Park Trails for a hike. You can see how beautiful it was with the trees beginning to change color.

It blesses my heart to see the relationship between theses two guys.

The next afternoon, while I was at a birthday party for a school friend I have only seen twice in the past 40+ years, John and Jared spent time together.

Our firewood was delivered the following week and Jamie, Josh and the kids offered to help move it from the driveway and stack it in the back on the patio.

The sky was blue with bright white clouds as I stood in the driveway. A riot of color each way I turned. It was a really chilly day but with team work the job was finished. I roasted a huge chicken and we all ate heartily.

With leftover marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate from Labor Day, John heated up the chiminea for us to make S’mores and snuggle by the warmth of the fire.

Keri entered a cupcake contest during her town’s annual Fall festival and won a Jack O’Lantern Cake decorating class.  Jamie asked if we could take her and we were thrilled to. So much fun for everyone. No cutesy pumpkin face cake for this girl ~ she went right for the fright!

Al DiBartolo is a third generation bakery owner in nearby Collingswood, NJ. He went all out making this class both fun and instructional. He has been on the Cooking Channel Save My Bakery and TLC’s Cake Boss.

We started back with our weekly, Wednesday night community group Bible study and these precious friends surprised us with cake and flowers.  We are doing something different this time – a video series by David Jeremiah titled Agents of the Apocalypse. We will still have our fellowship and prayer time as we listen to this 10-week study.

In David Jeremiah’s new book, Agents of the Apocalypse, you will become acquainted with the ten most prominent players in the book of Revelation—those who are the primary agents of the apocalypse. As we gain understanding about these key individuals in God’s master plan for this world, it will strengthen our resolve to stand firm even in the face of worsening circumstances. This book reveals the overarching truth of Revelation—that the Christian’s victory in Christ is an absolute certainty.

And now we celebrate this dear boy.

Coming home again is always hard work no matter how far you go. I love seeing your family doings – they are all such great times together. Wish we lived close enough to be part of your Bible Study – it's such an important subject. Jet is darling, but you already know that!

    Hi Lorraine,
    Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Such beautiful fall and family photos. Here in California it is still hot and not many changes in the landscapes.
    Congratulations on the 40th Anniversary!

You've done a lot for just being home. but that's part of the adjustment of it–getting into the swing of things while still catching up from travel. We've been away almost a month and it took me a full week to almost get back "in gear." I've enjoyed your trip photos.

I am so happy you are back home, Lorraine, after your trip of a lifetime. It really does take a bit to settle back in. How wonderful that you have such an awesome family and have so much love surrounding all of you. God bless your whole family and that little Jet is the cutest little boy face I have seen today! xo Diana
