Fortunately, with diligent attention and watering, my other flowers are doing okay.
Hoping for some rain as we begin another heatwave stretch!

A good idea is to use a market umbrella or similar (even a large golf umbrella will help) to shade your Hydrangeas when there's extreme weather! That's what my Nanna does and they always survive 🙂
After many years in the Pacific Northwest it's hard to remember such heat. I hope you'll be able to salvage some of your hydrangeas.
Rain, rain…I need to learn from you I think I killed my hydrangeas…yours are beautiful
I love them but had to give up on them and stick with what works in this heat.
Your hydrangeas are beautiful but oh my …after that heat it's amazing what happens. It is too hard to grow them in Phoenix with the heat. But I love them. So I'm planning to make a silk flower arrangement with blue hydrangeas for my kitchen table. It won't be the same as the real thing though.
My gosh- They are just beautiful, Lorraine. I just love hydrangeas. I think I am going to have to plant some more of them. I just have the one big bush- xo Diana
Boo-who, it's been hot here too and my flower pots are looking a little withered. I'm so sorry about your hydrangeas. You are one smart cookie though. I'm so glad you didn't put all of your flowers in one basket. Your other varieties are bee-utiful!
Keep your cool and water on….
I lost my sweet momma 19 years ago tomorrow and Hydrangeas were one of her favorite flowers, along with Gardenias. Your images are really lovely~
Your flowers are beautiful! I hope you have a bouquet in each of your rooms! You have such pretty hydrangea colors. We received rain yesterday and today and our grass is perking up. We did lose 5 hollies despite watering.
Hope you have a nice weekend.
Your flowers are so lovely LDH, and they well made up for the loss of the hydrangeas blooms. I had the same thing happen to my hydrangeas, they just don't do well with extreme heat. I am hoping with all the rain, cooler temps. we are getting along with some fertilizer that they will recover. Enjoy your weekend.
hugs,
Sue
The hydrangeas were so hopeful there at the beginning. Thankful ours were flourishing just when we had a cool spell, so that kept them beautiful longer than normal. The rest of your flowers are doing amazingly well for the heat!
I LOVE hydrangea bushes.. We used to have big ones infront of our house when I was a child.. I had some old ratty looking bushes pulled out in front of my home this year and have been thinking about putting Hydrangea's in .. You've convinced me..Im sorry they got burned in the heat. The heat wave did that here too.. I have 2 small bushes in the middle of my lawn that are now completely brown and burned and dead as well as all the flowers in my deck flower boxes I planted.. Rough year for our blooming friends..

I love your blog and garden flowers. Our hydrangea bushes get burnt every year during the hot weather, but come out of it later. Thanks for sharing the pepper jelly recipe too…I'm going to try making some this year. Yvonne
I would love to have my whole yard covered in hydrangea shrubs like you have with the different colors. Beautiful.
Its a bad situation for flowers and gardens for sure. Our squash plants are succoming to bugs of some sort..=( and our tomatoes are wilted inspite of daily watering. Our big pots of flowers on the patio are looking very poorly…..but at least we have plenty of water to drink & bathe in, right! It is so overcast this morning, how I hope it RAINS! Of course the soil is like a dust basin…how much would it take to really deep water? Wishing you a pleasant day…
The hydrangeas here have already come and gone. My husband brought a huge lovely bouquet to me a couple of weeks ago from a friend's yard. We are planting some of our own next year because we both love them. Hope you get some rain we are finally getting some today and it is so welcome. I enjoyed seeing all of your beautiful flowers.
Blessings~
Shame about the hydrangeas, such pretty colours. You can have some of our rain any day…rained nearly everyday for about 2 months. In some parts we had a months rain in 24 hrs with floods in places you would never have imagined. You certainly have some very pretty flowers in your garden!
Our hydrangeas had already bloomed before the heat set in. They were gorgeous….now they're just dried up blooms…which still look great in arrangements, but not so much on the bush!!! 🙂 HOPE you have a great weekend!
Your hydrangea were so pretty before the heat got them. Mine haven't bloomed yet. The heat sure does do a number on the flowers, glad to see your others are standing up to it with the watering
Oh the nasty heat…We are actually getting ready to put in two hydrangea bushes…how I love them. They will have a Northern exposure, so hopefully they will do well. All the attention and water is doing wonderfully with your other flowers though…Hope you get some rain soon too! HUHS
