A Bushel and a Peck

By Lorraine

I may be being extra sentimental lately but this warmed my heart when I saw it on pinterest.
My mom often would sing this to me when I was little 🙂

here was her version:

~*~

I didn’t know that it came from
the Musical “Guys And Dolls”
(Frank Loesser)
Perry Como & Betty Hutton – 1950 Margaret Whiting & Jimmy Wakely – 1950 Doris Day – 1950 The Andrews Sisters – 1953 Johnny Desmond – 1953 Vivian Blaine – 1953

I love you a bushel and peck
A bushel and peck and a hug around the neck
A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap
A barrel and a heap and I’m talking in my sleep
About you, about you
Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
you bet your pretty neck,
I do Doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle oo
I love you a bushel and peck
A bushel and peck
though you make my heart a wreck
Make my heart a wreck
and you make my life a mess
Make my life a mess,
yes A mess of happiness
About you, about you
Cause I love you
a bushel and a peck
You bet your pretty neck, I do
Doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle oo
I love you a bushel and peck
A bushel and peck
and it beats me all to heck
Beats me all to heck
and I’ll never tend the farm
Never tend the farm
when I wanna keep my arm About you,
about you
Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
You bet your pretty neck, I do
Doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle, doodle, oodle, oodle oo

My mom sang that one to me often. I've sung it to her many times when I tell her goodbye since my dad died. It always brings a smile to her face!

What a sweet memory of your mom. I've used the saying with my kids when they were small, but have never heard about the song. Thank you for sharing it! Blessings!

Oh I know this one also…so enjoyed seeing it and hearing it here…I can hear my mom's voice. I can also hear my husband's voice, his family loved musicals.

Thanks for sharing…it just brings a smile to my face.

How precious! I got such a kick out this. I remember singing this when I was a little girl and this song was so popular. Brought back some great memories. Thanks!
