Crochet Edge Baby Blanket

By Lorraine

Crochet edge baby blanket with a sweet border around a fleece fabric creating a cozy, snuggly lovey. Perfect baby shower gift or as a sofa throw.
It has been such a busy couple of weeks but I am finally getting to share my how-to for the Crochet Edge Baby Blanket made for a little guy due any moment now.

Crochet Edge Baby Blanket

I purchased a yard of soft, cream-colored fleece, and after washing, sewed right sides together.
I turned the blanket right-side out and began blanket-stitching around the edge with needle and matching embroidery floss at evenly spaced (about) 1/4-inch intervals.

With needle and thread, stitch around using the blanket stitch.

Attach yarn and begin with sc in each loop created by blanket stitch

Here is a close-up of the blanket stitch.  I could have made each stitch a little shorter but it just depends on the look you want. After stitching all the way around the blanket with the embroidery floss, I attached a matching cream-color 4-ply yarn using a crochet hook size H.  I single crocheted in each loop created by the blanket stitch, adding an extra single crochet occasionally to make an even foundation edge.

Add additional row(s) as desired

At the end of the first row, I joined with a slip stitch, chained 1 and single crocheted around again.

Attach new yarn color

Chain 1 and sc around

For the third row and final row, I changed to a variegated yarn and repeated the single crochet around.

Add additional row(s) as desired

I experimented with adding additional rows but preferred how it looked with this simple edging

A scalloped border would be cute but maybe for a baby girl blanket.
You can add additional rows using single, half-double, combinations, scalloped or whatever your imagination comes up with.

    Truly lovely for the soon-to-be…

I am still trying to get the hang of crochet'. Still working at it and ripping out most of it. I seem to either drop stitches or increase them and have no idea how? You inspire us with your skills. I have photography for the most part down pat but this crochet' is stumping me.

Will be lifting up the family and for a healthy and speedy delivery.

I now know who you remind me of; its the actress Juliette Binoche. You both have such lovely soothing faces and smiles.

GOD bless and keep you all safe.

This is beautiful, Lorraine. I am sure you could have a booming business on Etsy, but it would be too much work from so many orders! Praying for that speedy delivery. xo
