American Girl Crochet Pattern

By Lorraine

When those beautiful American Girl catalogs arrive in the mail, our granddaughters get so excited and pour through the pages pointing out new outfits for their dolls. But those prices can be pretty high, especially when you have more than one child making a wish list. I got to work and found a crochet pattern for dolls to make a cute outfit.

Our granddaughters, Keri, Brenna and Shaela love their American Girl dolls. Wanting to make some cute items for each of them, I searched for ideas. I crocheted these cute retro vests and hats as gifts for them following a free pattern from Red Heart. There is also a matching bag in their downloadable instructions.  Click the link to visit and check out the many other free patterns shared there.

Adorable sweater vest with matching beanie hat American Girl Crochet Pattern for dolls. Work in solid color, make stripes or variegated to vary look.
The above vest and hat were made using the recommended RED HEART® “Soft Yarn.

The other two sets were made using yarn I had in my stash and resulted in a slightly larger garment but still fitting nicely. I used a “G” hook for all crocheting.

Since the pieces are small, it is a great way to use yarn leftover from other projects.

I'm trying to crochet the vest and am stuck on the edging near the shoulders. Do you mind explaining that part or even taking a close-up picture if possible. Are the shoulder seams attached or are the sleeve edging details making the sleeves? Thanks, trying to finish for Christmas.

Those little girls will never forget the Christmas when their Grandmother made outfits for their dolls – that is the real stuff of memories. I hope someday to have a granddaughter for whom I can make doll clothes too.

Those are really cute. Your granddaughters are going to love them. Katie from Westie Julep makes American doll clothes. She has made a ton of outfits and they are being auctioned off on ebay. the proceeds got to a westie rescue.

I love your audio Bible link and would love to post one on my blog. I visited there the other day and couldn't figure out how to get one added to a blog.

If it's not too much trouble and please forgive me if I am being intrusive…could you pop over and tell me how you added the bible on your blog?

    Blessings!

Lorraine- They are going to love them. We don't have any real "doll players" in our family. It makes me kind of sad because I love to sew doll clothes. xo Diana

These are so cute! The girls will love them. I think my granddaughters are almost ready for American Girl dolls. Charlotte will get her momma's Samantha doll on her 5th birthday next May.
Learning how to crochet was on my list of things to learn this year…sadly that didn't happen. You've inspired me to add it to my 2013 list!
    Have a lovely day Lorraine.
