Morning & Afternoon

By Lorraine

When the view from your kitchen window looks like this…

You have to do two things.
Praise God for the breathtaking work of his hands
then grab your camera and run outside.

still roses on the Knock-Out bush
Psalm 8
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
above the heavens.
From the lips of children and infants
you have ordained praise
because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Looking Forward

By Lorraine

Sorting through my mom’s belongings, we remembered with joy the things that were so special to her.
I made this little heart from a Family Circle Magazine project way back in 1979.
It was from our Erin on her 1st Valentine’s Day.
My mom kept if for over thirty years.

We came across many items that she held dear…

a baby wash cloth from my niece, Toni
figurines from family and friends
trinkets made by grandchildren
a ceramic pumpkin that she kept up year round because my dad’s birthday was October 31st
~*~
As sweet and precious all of these item were to her, they are all temporary.
Her decision to trust Jesus as her Savior means an eternity in heaven to enjoy all that He has prepared for her.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me

John 14:1-6

~*~
However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”
the things God has prepared for those who love him
~*~
I couldn’t help but think of this old song as we emptied her home.
This world is not my home I’m just passing through
my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

They’re all expecting me and that’s one thing I know
my savior pardoned me and now I onward go
I know He’ll take me through though I am weak and poor
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

Just up in Glory Land we’ll live eternally
the Saints on every hand are shouting victory
their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven’s shore
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore

O Lord you know I have no friend like you
if Heaven’s not my home then Lord what will I do?
the angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
and I can’t feel at home in this world anymore
~*~
Jim Reeves was a favorite of my mom. She even requested his songs be played at her funeral. Here is Jim Reeves singing,
THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME
Being prepared for eternity is the most important decision we can make
James 4:14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes
Psalm 39:5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man’s life is but a breath
Psalm 144:4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow
Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth
Isaiah 30:18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

A Time for Everything

By Lorraine

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

We have been super busy emptying my mom’s place.
My sister sold her home recently and we helped her move her things into storage.  She just settled on a new home and now we are helping move things into this home.  I have been bringing furniture and things into my home and that requires rearranging rooms full of furniture here.
Lots of sorting, bagging, lifting, lugging, carrying, transporting, organizing, changing, cleaning.
I have been visiting my blogging friends but just not
enough time for commenting.
(The flowers in the photos are from a lovely hydrangea bush my friend gave me for my birthday in August.  Hoping to get it planted soon because it’s really special to me)

Comforting Bowl of Chili & “Trust Me” When God Doesn’t Make Sense

By Lorraine

Scroll down for chili recipe.
Homemade Chili con Carne from Emeril Lagasse is just right for warming up on a cold day or whenever you are in the mood for a delicious and hearty meal. Make with or without beans.
How do I blend a post about chili and a heartfelt message that was as moving as I thought it would be?  Not very well, I am afraid. (I don’t usually share food and faith in the same post so just scroll through if you are here for the recipe. It’s a little weird, I know.)

Easy pattern for a beautiful Give Thanks embroidery. Frame behind glass for a lovely write-on wipe-off Blessings sign or Thanksgiving decoration.As soon as I saw this Give Thanks! embroidery at Flamingo Toes, I commented to Bev to say I would be making one for… ME! Relaxing

By Lorraine

Sometimes it’s nice to be totally distracted from all our busyness.
One of our favorite ways is to become complete engrossed in a jigsaw puzzle.

 Of course, the timing has to be right.
It can’t be when you are having company over because the puzzle will be sprawled out over the dining room table for a while.
It can’t be when little ones will be visiting because a lost piece is a very sad finish.
It can’t be when you have lots on your plate because you will find yourself spending way too many minutes every time you pass by looking for just one more piece.
But, a few times a year, we enjoy being hunched over the dining room table sorting end pieces from center ones, grouping similar looking pieces and searching for a particular shape or color.  Then relishing the satisfaction each time we find a perfect fit and tap it into its place.
It’s kind of nice when things go together well and you can see the big picture getting clearer.
Life doesn’t always work that way.
That’s where faith and trust comes in.
~*~
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully,
even as I am fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12

Church Tower and A Mightly Forteess is Our God Hymn

By Lorraine

This tower is attached to the church we were married in.

We took a couple of our grandchildren by to show them where their
Mom-Mom & Pop-Pop were married.

After posting, a fellow blogger reminded me of this fitting hymn:

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
Martin Luther
A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and pow’r are great, and, armed with cruel hate,
On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing,
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,
And He must win the battle.
And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us;
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,
One little word shall fell him.
That word above all earthly pow’rs, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth;
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,
His kingdom is forever.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10

With a Grateful Prayer…

By Lorraine

…and a Thankful Heart. Yes, that is the name of my blog and it is also how we are feeling as an answer to a long awaited prayer has come. We are most grateful and thankful to the One whose promises never fail.
God… acts on behalf of those who wait for him
Isaiah 64:4
♥
I so resonate with this song by Tenth Avenue North. I have had many moments with the same plea as we waited.
Even when it didn’t feel like it, He continued to

Hold My Heart

“There are times when things look very dark to me — so dark that I have to wait even for hope. A long-deferred fulfillment carries its own pain, but to wait for hope, to see no glimmer of a prospect & yet refuse to despair; to have nothing but night before the casement & yet to keep the casement open for possible stars; to have a vacant place in my heart & yet to allow that place to be filled by no inferior presence — that is the grandest patience in the universe.

Happy New Year Greetings and an Atmos Clock

By Lorraine

My father-in-law worked for the Campbell Soup Company for 42 years. He received this beautiful Swiss made LeCoultre clock in recognition of his first 25 years of service.

It is unique in that it is an atmospheric, almost perpetual clock that does not need to be wound and gets the energy it needs to run from small temperature changes and atmospheric pressure changes in the environment. It is manufactured by Jaeger-LeCoultre in Switzerland

From Wikipedia: Its power source is a hermetically sealed capsule containing a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride, which expands into an expansion chamber as the temperature rises, compressing a spiral spring; with a fall in temperature the gas condenses and the spring slackens. This motion constantly winds the mainspring. A temperature variation of only one degree in the range between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius, or a pressure variation of 3 mmHg, is sufficient for two days’ operation

A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3
~*~

Sending Wishes for a very Happy New Year!

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Praise You in the Storm

By Lorraine

Storm on the Sea of Galilee, by Rembrandt

I posted this Casting Crowns song Praise You in the Storm a while back but because it is such a powerful and heart moving one, I felt inclined to post it again.
Take notice of the Bible verses at the end of the video…

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm,
and he guided them to their desired haven.
Psalm 107:28-30
May you be blessed and encouraged by this once again.
