Finished Stitching Along Embroidery Anniversary Project

By Lorraine

Finished and framed.

The theme of this embroidery sample is our 35th wedding anniversary.
Here it is all finished and our anniversary isn’t until October!
I have never before finished a project so far in advance!
It was so fun to make and a very relaxing and enjoyable craft project.

Remember this Valentine’s Day post when I was inspired by Ann Martin @ all things paper, to make these pretty little paper quilled hearts?
This heart fills the center square of the sampler.
♥

Originally, I Googled how to write in Hebrew the Bible verse,
Song of Songs 6:3
(I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine).
I stitched it onto my sampler and then used a translator from Hebrew to English.
It was not correct, so… out came the stitches.
I thought about writing out the verse all around the four sides, but I rejected that idea too.
Simply writing the word Beloved seemed best.

Finished piece prepared for framing

Embroidered Tiny one-inch Inchies Stitching Along

By Lorraine

Guess what?
I finished my Stitching-Along Project!
Even found a frame at AC Moore and it was on clearance!
I didn’t try to rush through. It was just so enjoyable and moved along so quickly.
I am tempted to make another one bright and whimsical for say…
a little girl?!?
Here are inchies 23 through 28 of 35.

Each little one-inch square represents something about our married life together. This one is our home

“J” for John

2010 is the year of completion of this embroidery project and the year we celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary.

Not really of significance for this one, just a simple diagonal stitch.

A family Tree

And a heart with lazy daisies and French knots.

I have loved embroidery ever since I learned long ago. It is a relaxing needlecraft with a lot of creative stitches. Here are a few more tiny one-inch squares I stitched in this fun, stitch-along project.

This square celebrates our 35th wedding anniversary.

My Bible full of Truth and instruction for life.

Our anniversary date

A fun flower with a beaded center

Wedding rings

An autumn leaf since we were married during this season.

And, the letter “H” for our last name.

I’m stitchingalong…

By Lorraine

…with Amy of Inspireco in her 39 Squares project.

I wanted to be sure I could actually find time to do this project before I committed to it. I’ve always enjoyed embroidery and this sounded like so much fun!
The goal is to make one a day and the group is on day 10.

So, here’s my plan.
I am making 35 inchies to represent our 35th wedding anniversary coming up in October.
Some squares will be symbolic of our life together and others will simply highlight a particular embroidery stitch or trinket.
I decided on a neutral pallet and hope to frame it to an 8×10-inch size.
‘L’, you know who that represents 😉

Gotta go…. I have some catching up to do.

I love this watercolor Christmas church painting. It was done by our daughter, Jill during one of her home schooled high school years. I love the soft colors and the glow of the little church in the snow. Learning to paint with watercolors is on my “bucket” list 🙂

DIY Wooden Tic-Tac-Toe Game Gift for Boy

By Lorraine

I made this Tic-Tac-Toe board game for our little guys, Ryan and Noah but it would work for any age or as a coffee table item. Here is how I made them:

I began with a sanded pine board that was cut to an 8.5-inch square. You can paint this to add color. I like the look of the natural wood to contrast with the paper so I left mine plain.

I purchased a piece of scrapbook paper with a relatively non-busy background and cut it to an 8-inch square.

I had a bag of 1/4-inch wooden rectangles that I cut in half so each measures 1.5-inches. You can purchase little wooden squares or circles that are just the right size. You will need a total of 10 for each game. Again, you can paint these or leave natural.

For the Tic-Tac-Toe pieces I used images with a theme I thought would interest our little guys. I scaled them on a photo editor and printed them to just shy of 1.5-inches. Then I had them copied at Staples. For an easier version, use stickers or images from cute scrapbook paper. Then you can skip the trip to Staples and move right along without interruption 🙂

You will need two different images for each game.

Using Mod Podge, I applied the 8-inch piece of paper to the 8.5-inch board.

I used electrical tape to make the grid. I cut 4 strips 1/4-inch wide x 7 3/4-inch long. It would had been much easier to just cut strips of paper and glue them on but somehow I manage to find a more difficult way to do things 🙂

Then I applied each image to the playing piece.

I glued four little wooden thingies (see pic) on the bottom four corners for feet.

I finished with a couple of coats of water-based varnish for durability.

I tossed the playing pieces in a small draw-string bag and there you have it! Now, who thinks they can beat Ryan at his favorite game?
