morning by morning new mercies I see

By Lorraine

{April morning sunrise}
Great is Thy faithfulness
 written by Thomas Chisholm (1866–1960) music composed by William M. Runyan (1870–1957)
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be

Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me

I don’t think I have ever heard a performance of Amazing Grace I did not like, but this one by Chris Tomlin is lovely .

Prone to Wander

By Lorraine

This needlepoint is very special to me because it is a line from my favorite hymn and because it was stitched for me by a kind and thoughtful friend of my daughter, in her own unique style.
I thought a long time about how to finish her piece. Instead of framing it, I decided to make it into a pillow and display it on the chair I sit on as I spend time reading my Bible.

Come Thou Fount
Robert Robinson (1758)
Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it
mount of God’s redeeming love.
Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.
Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above

. O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
Seal it for Thy courts above.

I am currently reading a devotional recommended by Alistair Begg, with prone to wander in the title.
I am only beginning the book and love it already, especially how well the prayers are worded.
Prone to Wander: Prayers of Confession and Celebration
by Barbara R Duguid and Wayne Duguid Houk

Here is an excerpt from the back cover:
Confessing our sins might seem like a gloomy business—God already knows about them, so what’s the point of dwelling on failure? But confession is more celebratory than we think. It does not simply remind us of our guilt, but points us to our great Savior, who has atoned for us and lovingly pursues us despite our wandering.

(1866-1960)
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!

Love is…

By Lorraine

Sweet Love is... comic strip drawings created by Kim Grove Casali of New Zealand and saved in a scrap book from the mid-1970's.Does this sweet Love is… cartoon bring back long-ago memories? When our love was new and young, I snipped these expressions of devotion and affection from the newspaper and added them to a scrapbook I kept of our every moment together.Continue Reading

the name of the LORD is to be praised

By Lorraine

Late afternoon sun shines through the golden Hickory tree leaves providing vivid color contrast to the red burning bush and green oak leaves.
the following verse is the first one that came to mind when I viewed this scene
But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.
1 Corinthians 2:9
Wishing you all a beautiful autumn Sunday!

This World is Not My Home
(lyrics and video of Jim Reeves singing this sweet hymn)

This world is not my home, I’m just passing through.
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
They’re all expecting me and that’s one thing I know.
My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go.
I know He’ll take me through, though I am weak and poor.
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
I have a loving Savior up in glory-land,
I don’t expect to stop until I with Him stand,
He’s waiting now for me in heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
Just up in Glory Land we’ll live eternally.
The Saints on every hand are shouting victory.
Their song of sweetest praise drifts back from Heaven’s shore
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.
O Lord you know I have no friend like you
If Heaven’s not my home, then Lord what will I do?
The angels beckon me from Heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.

praying for my friend and her family who are traveling the road of great loss
and
for others who need to be reminded
of the One who is able to lovingly and tenderly carry us through difficult times
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
