Think On These Things #3

By Lorraine

Born February 29, 2012 ~ 8 pounds 6 ounces ~ 20-inches

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
Psalm 139:13-18

Has God impressed on your heart something special this week?
Was there a Scripture verse, a song, a quote, a poem or an encouraging word that came your way and caused you to pause.

Fresh From Heaven ~ A Little Leapling

By Lorraine

She’s a leap year baby
delivered by a 10 year old leapling doctor (age 40 in regular years)
She doesn’t have a name yet

and distance didn’t keep Jamie’s twin sister, Jill from the miracle of birth!

Colors

A huge container of colorful, fruity circles were just too fun for this camera-carrying Mom-Mom not to get a few shots.
I just had to shoot faster than my assistant could nibble

Job Done

By Lorraine

Jamie asked if we would like to stop by her house on the way home from our visit to Philly .
She and Josh have been working hard gutting and re-doing the second floor of their cape cod house making room for their growing family.
It was taken down to the studs and new walls, electricity, windows and lighting were installed.
New carpet had just been laid and the rooms were put back together.
The kids were so excited to chill out and show us their new rooms.
 Keri Jill
She feels like a princess with a chandelier in her room.
Since the weather was so warm she was able to stand by an open window to watch the birds.
Pop-Pop trying to wheedle (unsuccessfully) a kiss from Cambrie as Keri comes running to give him some birthday lovin’.
Noah and Silas were arranging their stuffed animals just so when we arrived.
The kids were so content to play while we sat and chatted.
Caleb John has the new dormer for his own space.
My dear Jamie taking a well earned rest after much painting and working to get this project complete before baby girl arrives.
Silas was showing Pop-Pop some of his homeschool computer work as the other kids gathered around. Little Cambrie ooched in for some help with her Lego’s.

even the stairwell got a fresh coat of paint

Waiting for baby

By Lorraine

Our daughter, Jamie is due the end of February. While waiting for baby,I was inspired by a crocheted baby blanket I saw on Pinterest to make for our new granddaughter soon to join her five siblings.
(Here is the LINK to the Etsy shop where you can purchase the pattern made by Sheila for the beautiful baby blanket that inspired my project.  Sheila’s blankets are much cuter!)

I added a teeny beanie and similar beanies for big sisters
Keri and Cambrie.
Hard to think of Cambrie as a big sister!

The tiny beanie pattern was found on a very sweet blog ~
The Dainty Daisy.
Betsy (and Laura) has a video tutorial for this sweet hat for those of you that need a little encouragement to begin a project.

For the blanket:

Remember the crocheted washcloths I made here?

Using the same pattern but working with three strands worsted weight yarn, N crochet hook, and doubling the beginning chain count, I made a baby blanket measuring about 28 x 32-inches.

This is a very thick blanket that would be super cushy to lay a baby on or use to throw over a car seat or stroller.  Too thick, in my opinion, for wrapping baby in.

The pattern
Worsted weight cotton yarn (I am not sure how much yarn I used.  I worked from three 1-lb. skeins and probably have enough left to make another blanket.
Crochet Hook size N or whatever size works best for you

Ch 56
Row 1
Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook, (sc in the next ch, dc in the next ch)
across, sc in the next ch, hdc in the last ch; ch 1, turn.

Row 2
Hdc in the first hdc, (dc in the next sc, sc in the next dc) 12 times, dc in the next sc, hdc in the last hdc; ch 1, turn.

Row 3
Hdc in the first hdc, (sc in the next dc, dc in the next sc) across, sc in the next dc, hdc in the last hdc; ch 1, turn.

Rows 4-to length desired
(Repeat rows 2 and 3) to desired length; do not ch 1 at the end of row.Last Row: Sl st in each st across. Fasten off.

Finishing:
I bought 1 yard of fabric for the backing and after washing and hand stitching to the back I had just enough left over to make two small burp cloths.

While visiting with Jamie, I peeked into her bedroom and this is what I saw.

It is the same cradle I put her in when we brought her and her twin sister home from the hospital.
It has been used by many babies since then.

Crochet Robe Wedding Gift made by Loving Hands

By Lorraine

Both of these robes were lovingly crocheted by my mom. I received mine as an engagement gift in 1975. The pink robe was made for our oldest daughter about 10 years later. Now, our oldest granddaughter is wearing the beautiful piece made so many years ago.

Friends & Fireplace

By Lorraine

Our weekly Bible Study group got together Wednesday evening for our annual Christmas dinner party.
I am so blessed by each person in this photo!  What a wealth of Godly wisdom and character each person brings to the group.  We love each other dearly as we encourage and pray for one another on our journey through this world toward our Heavenly home
Between Dinner and Dessert, we gathered in the family room for a photo in front of the fireplace
When we moved into our home 27 years ago, this fireplace had a fake brick front and a small, rough-hewn board for the mantle.  John and I designed and built the new mantle and added marble to the front and the hearth.  The wood-burning stove insert is what keeps us toasty warm through the winter.
We also added the windows to bring light into the room.
The metal screen belonged to my mom.  She used it in front of a decorative fireplace.
The counted cross-stitch Silent Night was made and framed many years ago and comes out each Christmas.
The Scherenschnitte (German for paper cutting) were made several years ago from patterns I found in a book and patterns shared by Cindy.

At Abbey’s request, we brought the tree back to the family room.  The last few years it has been in the living room but she wanted a change this year.
I wish the room was as large as it appears in this photo!
It gets pretty crowded when all the kids are here.
The coffee table that holds our Christmas Eve hearty appetizer dinner.
One of the only times I allow food in the family room…
after Candlelight Service and the kids are snugly in their jammies while Pop-Pop reads
The Night Before Christmas.
I think at least two of the little ones actually pay attention through the whole story    😉
It is just too hard to be still with cousins visiting and Christmas Day just one more sleep away.
The quaint village waits in anticipation for Jill and family to arrive and join their cousins to watch the trains go round and round the tracks with horn tooting and tiny puffs of smoke billowing from the engine.

Weekend with the Boys

By Lorraine

They jumped in the leaves on Friday
They played football with Aunt Abbey in the afternoon
They snuggled Friday night
They helped blow and rake all those leaves Saturday morning
They hauled leaves to the curb
They dumped leaves and someone noticed a tree to climb
And climb he did
They ate the whole batch of Peanut Butter Spritz made from my friend, Lynn @Happier Than a Pig in Mud’s recipe

They watched The Wizard of Oz Saturday evening
Noah and Pop-Pop poured casts of sharks

Noah painted and glazed his sharks

They watched church service on-line Sunday morning because Pop-Pop’s bones were aching from all the raking on Saturday as well as standing two hours watching soccer as FBC Mt. Laurel Campus beat FBC Haddonfield Campus in the Champion Tournament   🙂

They tried on the spectacles worn by their Great-Pop-Pop when he was just their age about 85 years ago

And then they all went home.
The End!

Impish Strategy of a Baby

By Lorraine

Or what to do when caught in current favorite past-time
Give cute, cheesy smile when discovered
Make innocent expression with soft brown eyes
play peek-a-boo with Pop-Pop to melt hearts
Explain the situation in sweet baby talk
 Give purpose to the misbehavior
Illustrate the fun of playing in water
do this dozens of times each day
