A Child Again

By Lorraine

it starts with the sound of the sirens in the distance…
and builds as the shrill intensifies and the fire truck rounds the corner with lights flashing…
a little girl of long ago, excitedly emerges and waves as Santa drives by the house…
I am transported back many years with the same excitement filling my heart… every year!
John asked, ‘Doesn’t it look a little silly you being out here waving to Santa without any children around?’ Ah, but there is a child here!
For it is good to be children sometimes, and never better than at Christmas, when its mighty Founder was a child himself.

Charles Dickens

I assume I get this charge because my parents made a big deal of Santa when we were children.  My Mom and Dad did not come to know the Good News and embrace Jesus as their Savior until they were in their later years.  Though Santa was never the focus of our Christmas celebration of Christ’s birth, and our grandchildren  have always understood the fantasy of Santa, I think their Mom-Mom will always run out to wave as the fire truck passes by.
A photo snapped Friday evening, just before John & I left to attend his company Christmas Party.
We had a wonderful time.

Weekend with the Boys

By Lorraine

They jumped in the leaves on Friday
They played football with Aunt Abbey in the afternoon
They snuggled Friday night
They helped blow and rake all those leaves Saturday morning
They hauled leaves to the curb
They dumped leaves and someone noticed a tree to climb
And climb he did
They ate the whole batch of Peanut Butter Spritz made from my friend, Lynn @Happier Than a Pig in Mud’s recipe

They watched The Wizard of Oz Saturday evening
Noah and Pop-Pop poured casts of sharks

Noah painted and glazed his sharks

They watched church service on-line Sunday morning because Pop-Pop’s bones were aching from all the raking on Saturday as well as standing two hours watching soccer as FBC Mt. Laurel Campus beat FBC Haddonfield Campus in the Champion Tournament   🙂

They tried on the spectacles worn by their Great-Pop-Pop when he was just their age about 85 years ago

And then they all went home.
The End!

The Note

By Lorraine

It takes a lot to knock me off my feet, but this illness got me.
Just a head cold but packing a wallop of persistent dry coughing and now sinus.
Better than any medicine was this note and rose I found as I shuffled into the kitchen this morning.
~♥~

There are places I’ll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Ocean City with Family

By Lorraine

Jill and Brad are spending the week in Ocean City, as leaders for a Youth for Christ retreat.
There are 75 people part of the group so they are very busy.
John and I met Erin on the beach and were later joined by Jill, Brad and kids for a really beautiful day.

The weather had been not-so-nice for the previous few days, so on this gorgeous day, the beach was really packed.

Walking the boards, miniature golf with Ryan, Brenna and Shae, then pizza for dinner and finally Kohr’s Bros  Custard.  Perfect!

A Sleep-over

By Lorraine

Keri hadn’t spent the night for a while so we asked if she would like to come Sunday evening.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Caleb said in his sweet little voice…

“I go to Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop’s too?”

Vintage Baptismal Certificate

By Lorraine

His name and this 123 year old Baptismal Certificate were passed down to my husband from his grandfather. This beautiful document is still in the original frame with a yellowed strip of masking tape on the back that reads,
‘This belongs to Johnnie’.
John Henry Sr. was baptized in a Lutheran church in Philadelphia in 1887 by Pastor Charles Philipbar.

Church Christmas Living Nativity “I Know That Wiseman!”

By Lorraine

Our church began a outdoor Living Nativity many years ago on a small scale back in the early 1990’s. Over the years it has grown considerably and now, weather permitting, runs three weekends (7 nights) and has had as many as 14,000 visitors come through in one year. There are 13 scenes beginning with Creation and ending with Jesus ascending into the clouds with a promise to return.

Our family has greatly enjoyed helping in many capacities from baking cookies (up to 50,000 are served each year), including running a projector, being a guide, a greeter, a “mingler”, helping to set-up/take-down, helping in costumes and being a cast member.

For many years my husband was a wiseman. In this scene, the three Magi enter from the right to inquire of Herod “where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him”.
After leaving Herod, the wisemen circle around the back of the scene and re-enter on the left where they knock on the door of a carpenter and his wife. The curtain is drawn aside and the toddler Jesus emerges with his mother, Mary.
