Remember my birthday friend from my last post…
She is Anni’s Grammy!
Three generations of friends.
I’d say that is pretty special.

Antique Highchair

By Lorraine

When we were expecting our twin daughters, John’s aunt gave us an antique highchair that had been in the family for many years.  We think this antique high chair is from the early 1900’s and was used by John’s dad who was born in 1918. I was never able to find another highchair like this one with the beautiful carved Dutch children and tiger oak wood, nor was I able to learn anything more about it.

Candid Shots

By Lorraine

Some of my favorite photos of the kids are caught when they aren’t looking.
They sure are captivated by a little fellow named Caillou.

A Sleep-over

By Lorraine

Keri hadn’t spent the night for a while so we asked if she would like to come Sunday evening.
Much to everyone’s surprise, Caleb said in his sweet little voice…

“I go to Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop’s too?”

Pistachio Nut Cake

By Lorraine

I had been wanting to try this cake recipe from my sweet blogging friend, Mildred.
I baked one up Saturday morning to take to Jamie’s that afternoon.
After enjoying her delicious meal of Crock Pot Pulled Barbecue Chicken, coleslaw and onion rings, Josh made us coffee with his French press and we relaxed at the table with dessert.
Well, we relaxed.
They scurried about tending to their five energetic cherubs!

The youngest energetic cherub enjoyed getting in front of the camera lens as I tried to snap a few photos of the cake.

Cambrie also helped me unload load the dishwasher.
This little 14 month peanut is a fearless and constant climber.
Those very short legs do not hinder her from scaling the highest heights.

Here is the recipe for the cake that is just as delicious as Mildred says.
But even better than the cake is a story associated with the author of the cookbook and my dear friend, Mildred.  It is a must read story! Thank you, Mildred, for sharing it. ♥

Hoppin’ John New Year’s Eve

By Lorraine

This New Year's eve, we tried a new-to-us dinner menu of traditional southern foods including Hoppin' John, simmered collard greens and prune cake from a segment of Kathie Lee's Early Show program.

We tried a New Year’s eve dinner menu with new-to-us foods including Hoppin’ John and other southern favorites. I caught a segment of the Early Show the other day and saw for the first time, lifestyle contributor, Katie Lee as she served up delicious recipes that she suggested just might bring good luck in the new year.  I don’t buy much into luck but these dishes sure did look tempting even to this Northern girl.

Mommy’s Birthday and Baby Cambrie

By Lorraine

That’s how I felt when I went to down load the pictures I took of my mom today as we celebrated her birthday, and realized the camera card was not in the camera!
The sweet photos of her Great-Grandbaby looking into her eyes…
The photos of her Great-Grandchildren gathered round her
The photos of her blowing out the candle on her birthday cake
AAUGH!
(as Charlie Brown would say)
I do have a few rather poor quality shots taken with my little camera
Happy Birthday, Mom!
We love you!

Cambrie Noelle ~ A Baby Smile and God’s Masterpiece poem

By Lorraine

Look who learned to smile at her Mom-Mom…
if you listen real close you’ll hear her tiny little coos.
We had a delightful conversation!

*♥*♥*♥*
Babies are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God.
Lucky the woman who knows the pangs of birth for she has held a star.
♥

God’s Masterpiece
From graceful lilies pure and white,
God fashioned lovely skin,
Forget-me-nots he chose for eyes,
Then formed your baby chin.
He took a tulip bright and red —
‘Twas one that did not fade;
A softer, sweeter little mouth
Before was never made.
Another flower next He used —
A rosebud, pink and fair;
Touched it to your dimpled cheeks
And bade it blossom there.
Then with His magic fingers picked
Two morning glories white;
Curled and shaped your little ears,
Soon they were fastened tight.
That crowning bit of golden down
Will soon become your hair;
He gathered pollen from the flowers,
And sprinkled it with care.
For dainty little fingers dear
And precious, tiny toes,
He used slender daisy frills;
A snowdrop made your nose.
This world and all within it
He created here for man;
But Baby was “God’s Masterpiece”
Since time and life began!
(Poem by Dora Dinsmore)

Cambrie In Mom-Mom’s vintage Christening Dress

By Lorraine

While watching our sweet, baby granddaughter, Cambrie the other day, I dressed her in the Christening dress that belonged to me. Then I made a picture to look like an old cabinet photo.
Irresistibly hug-able, this little one is 6 weeks old already!
Here I am wearing the dress as my Godmother holds me in the bright sun.
My Godparents and my parents~~~~~*~~~~~

Gentle Jesus, meek and mild

Gentle Jesus, meek and mild,
look upon a little child;
pity my simplicity,
suffer me to come to thee.

Fain I would to thee be brought,
dearest God, forbid it not;
give me, dearest God, a place
in the kingdom of thy grace.

Lamb of God, I look to thee;
thou shalt my example be;
thou art gentle, meek, and mild;
thou wast once a little child.

Fain I would be as thou art;
give me thine obedient heart;
thou art pitiful and kind,
let me have thy loving mind.

Let me, above all, fulfill
God my heavenly Father’s will;
never his good Spirit grieve;
only to his glory live.

Thou didst live to God alone;
thou didst never seek thine own;
thou thyself didst never please:
God was all thy happiness.

Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
in thy gracious hands I am;
make me, Savior, what thou art,
live thyself within my heart.

Charles Wesley, 1742
